Helping those in need

We believe that part of our devotion to God includes helping those who are in need and less fortunate than ourselves. 1 John 3:17-18 says “But if anyone has the world’s goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does God’s love abide in him? Little children, let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth.”

At Vista, we believe that every Christian should cultivate a heart of helping those who are in need. As we go through this life, our response should be “see a need, meet a need.”

In addition to the church living out their faith in this way, to help in our community, Vista distributes bags of food to low-income families and individuals in San Luis Obispo. Each month, one of our Small Groups will pick up bags at Vista’s office and fill them with a list of non-perishable goods. They are then distributed by our Small Groups to low-income neighborhoods that HASLO (Housing Authority of San Luis Obispo) has helped us identify. We have found this to be a practical way to remember those less fortunate than ourselves, and to help those who are in need in a relevant and impactful way. We distribute food bags through our Small Groups because it is our hope that each Small Group member will grow and cultivate a heart of helping and loving those around them in our community.
